Investigating the Inciting Incident

all times in Pacific
this lab is on Zoom

The Inciting Incident - that spark that sets your play up for all the drama to come. How can we focus in on this pivotal moment to get our play going and grab our audience right away?

In this playwriting workshop, we’ll read several examples from plays that use the inciting incident in different ways. Some are in your face, some are more subtle, some are barely there . . . and some may even have two! We’ll consider the placement of the inciting incident as well as its actions and events.

We’ll read, debate, and read some more. There will also be writing exercises and lots of discussion time.

Writers of all genres and experience levels welcome, though expect to dive right into the world of playwriting.
