Conquering Critique: Giving and Getting Feedback

all times in Pacific
this lab is on Zoom

Some of the scariest moments in a writer's life are the ones where we brace for judgments on our work. In this workshop, we will look at different types of feedback, including "what's working," "constructive criticism," "praise sandwich", silence / no response to submissions. We’ll examine the feelings they generate, the way in which they impact our writing, our go-to responses, and other possible responses.

You’re encouraged to bring examples of feedback you struggled with, are confused by, or have found particularly helpful. We will practice giving and receiving feedback and exploring the way we react in our bodies and minds, and we’ll also learn some techniques for absorbing, assessing, and moving on from critique.

This workshop is appropriate for writers at all levels but some experience with getting (and giving) challenging feedback will be helpful.
