Play Lab is a yearlong playwriting cohort in partnership with The Shattered Glass Project. We meet once a month to share our writing, experiences, and challenges in the industry. Sessions are a mix of receiving feedback, generating new work, open discussions, mini workshops, and group projects. The year ends in a Showcase where professional actors read your work aloud in front of an audience.

Who’s Eligible to Join?

• Writers with prior playwriting experience (this cohort is not for beginners) and an openness to learn, support others, and welcome new ideas.

• The max number of members at any time is 12.

How do I join?

• Complete the application below. You will be asked:

  1. Define what having “experience” as a playwright means to you.

  2. Why you want to be a part of this cohort?

  3. What goals you have for the year?

  4. Do you understand and can you commit to the group expectations (see below)?

• Eligible playwrights will be added to a waitlist in the order they request to join and will be contacted when there’s a new opening.

• Members can stay with the group as long as they would like unless they’re asked to leave.

• Reasons a member might be asked to leave the group include: lack of attendance or participation, preventing others from participating, creating an unsafe environment, general disruption, being a jerk, mismatch with group goals/expectations.

Group Expectations:

• You will commit to attending as many sessions as you can and will miss no more than 2 in a row.

• You will contribute equitably to conversations and will be as good a listener as you are a speaker.

• You will celebrate your fellow members’ successes and be a cheerleader for everyone.

• You will try to show up to meetings on time.

• You will come prepared.

• You will keep an open mind and a generous heart.

• You will leave the big ego and dismissive language outside.

• You will not be a jerk. Jerks will not be tolerated. You will definitely not be a jerk.

Membership Dues:

• Membership is $300/year or $90/quarter (January - March, April - June, July - September, October - December).

• New members can join during the months of January, April, July.

• If you are on the yearly plan, your dues are due (heh heh) by December 29, 2025.

• If you are on the quarterly plan, your dues are due:

  • December 29, 2025

  • March 30, 2026

  • June 29, 2026

  • September 28, 2026

• Once your application is accepted and you have been offered a spot in the cohort, you will be sent the payment link.
