Script Lab is an online monthly playwriting group. The sessions are a combination of sharing work and receiving feedback, mini workshops on craft and process, writing exercises, open discussions, and learning to market ourselves. There are occasionally small projects that require some work between sessions.

Who’s Eligible to Join?

• Playwrights of all experience levels playwriting experience who are ready to learn, support others, and welcome new ideas.

• The max number of members at any time is 12.

Group Expectations

• Attendance is key to joining the group. Participation is a combination of listening to others' work, sharing your own work, asking questions, bringing ideas, and being a supporter and celebrator of the group's successes.

• If you miss two sessions in a row, you’ll be asked if you’d like to continue. If you cannot make the third meeting in a row, you’ll be asked to step away from the group.

• Shared work is given 30 minutes, including reading scenes out loud and feedback. You must attend at least two sessions before your work.

• These are the established rules:

• Please show up on time, if possible.

• Please keep your camera on, if possible. It's always nice to get to know one another by both face and voice. If you're not able to be on camera, please let me know beforehand.

• If you need any accessibility accommodations, let me know and we'll work together on making sure you're comfortable.

• Be prepared to write. Be prepared to share. Be prepared to ask questions and give feedback. We're all in this together.

• Open minds and generous hearts are required.

• Big egos and dismissive language will not be tolerated.

Membership Dues:

• Membership is $216/year or $60/quarter (January - March, April - June, July - September, October - December).

• New members can join at the start of each quarter.

• If you are on the yearly plan, your dues are due (heh heh) the month before you start with us.

• If you are on the quarterly plan, your dues are due:

  • Q1: 12/20/24

  • Q2: 3/21/25

  • Q3: 6/20/25

  • Q4: 9/19/25

  • Q1: 12/19/25

  • Q2: 3/20/26

  • Q3: 6/19/26

  • Q4: 9/18/26

How do I join?

• Complete the application below. You will be asked:

  1. To define what having “experience” as a playwright means to you;

  2. Why you want to be a part of this cohort;

  3. What goals you have for the year;

  4. If you can commit to the group expectations.

• Eligible playwrights will be added to a waitlist in the order they request to join and will be contacted when there’s a new opening.

• Members can stay with the group as long as they would like unless they’re asked to leave.

• Reasons a member might be asked to leave the group include: lack of attendance or participation, preventing others from participating, creating an unsafe environment, general disruption, delinquent membership dues, mismatch with group goals/expectations, being a jerk.
