Exploring Form Poetry: Ekphrasis & Acrostic

all times in Pacific
this lab is on Zoom

Form poetry is poetry that has very specific guidelines and rules. You’ve probably heard of and/or read the ever-popular Haiku, a Japanese form of poetry. The rule of Haiku is that is has three lines:

first line, five syll’bles
seven in the second line
and five in the third

In this workshop, we’ll delve into two distinguished forms of poetry called the Ekphrasis and the Acoustic:

  • Ekphrasis means “description” in Greek and is, at its foundation, poetry about visual art (including sculpture).

  • Acrostic is poetry where the first letter of each line spells out a word, name, or phrase when read vertically.

Whether you’re curious, beginner, intermediate or advanced poet, come join us in this exploration and experience two significant and fun forms of poetry!
