Writing the Short-Short Story

all times in Pacific
this lab is on Zoom

How do you tell a compelling story that lingers with readers in only 1000 words? What about 500? 100? Whether you call it flash-fiction, micro, or short-short stories, this format forces writers to become incredibly economical and conscious of every word, presenting a unique and satisfying challenge. Additionally, because of their length, this format has become increasingly popular in web-based publications.

In this 2-hour guided discussion, we’ll review examples of micro and flash fiction (and maybe some prose poetry), then follow with writing prompts to craft our own minute masterpieces to send out into the world. This workshop is both informative and exploratory, so come ready to learn and push your creative boundaries!
